Dear NY Pizza,
I love you.
-Daddy (and son)
These pictures were taken on our first trip to NYC with the boy, and even though he is still just eating breast milk, I still took great pleasure in explaining to him the difference in NYC, Chicago, Southern Ohio, Greek, “chain” and frozen pizzas. I’m sure for him it was somewhat less of a pleasurable experience, but sometimes learning is tough.

Per our conversation I outlined the following:
Daddy’s rules for NYC pizza:

Hopefully we will be able to return to NYC soon and enjoy a few white slices together this time!
Our son’s first time having pizza.
(at Antico of course!)
..and yes, that music was playing in the restaurant. It could not have been muck more perfect.
Dear Pizza,
I love you.
-Daddy (and son)
Most Mondays a good friend of mine (and fellow pizza aficionado) meet up at Antico, an AMAZING pizza joint here in Atlanta. So as a stay at home dad of course my son is coming with me (and sometime mommy meets us there too). The pizza is cooked in 900+ degree imported wood fired ovens and the pies are made exclusively from Italian ingredients, all of which creates a truly mind blowingly delicious pizza.

After a few trips, and not long after he started eating solid food, it seemed like a good idea (to me) to see what my son would think of this delectable food. After all, I am a strong believer in emerging kids in every kid of new (safe) experience possible to grow their confidence and appreciation of the world. And he had made it pretty clear that whatever we were eating, he wanted to eat it too!!

You can see (above) as it hits his taste buds he is thinking “wait a minute, this isn’t steamed broccoli”. He sucked on the slice for a minute as he tried to figure our how exactly to eat this puzzling new food in a new alien form. Perhaps thinking that the crust, like a spoon he had become accustom to, was simple a delivery device for the toppings (like with Pizza Hut pizza -ZING).

Finally he came to the understanding that the crust, at Antico, was just as good as the sauce, cheese, garlic and basil that covered the top. It was as if each new layer yielded a new and wonderful taste explosion.. oh to eat pizza again for the first time (or for lunch today perhaps).
Since his introduction several months ago he has become a pizza hog, truly chowing it down on our Monday visits, almost to the point that we are going to start buying a pie just for the two of us to plit. A few times however, his parents having become lazy, ordered the only food that can be delivered in their part of town. The dreaded Papa John’s. The look on his face summed up my feelings exactly upon his first bite, thinking it was from Antico I’m sure, but soon realizing his mistake: “OK, I’m going to eat this because it’s hot and here with lots of cheese. But I’m not happy about it”.
Domino’s Pizza’s “Safe Sound” electric scooters
In the Netherlands, Domino’s Pizza’s electric scooters didn’t make enough sound to warn oncoming bikers that they were coming. So, to fix the potential danger, Domino’s installed devices on the scooters that emit fake engine noise… with a few added sounds here and there!
