Review: Burger King’s bacon sundae

Everything tastes better with bacon:  My wife sent me a text the day that this desert launched in Atlanta and asked if I had gotten one yet?  She knows all to well that I am a connoisseur of “Dare Foods” (as she calls them) so I was stunned when I had not yet heard about it.  Even more stunned to hear about it for the first time from my wife.  My reply “Recalculating route to nearest BK Lounge”.

I’ve had bacon on deserts before, in fact it’s been all the rage for some time now at some of the more experimental restaurants in Atlanta, and it’s delicious! As almost anything with bacon added to it always is.  So when I pulled up the the drive-thru and saw the picture with caramel AND chocolate in addition to bacon I suddenly had a good feeling about this.  I placed my order and tried not to think about the pan of bacon that had been sitting in the kitchen all day waiting for guys like me to order this thing.  I tried not to think about the calories that my wife would surely inform me of later.  I instead tried to focus on the delicious treat I was about to receive and take it at face value (BACON).

As it was handed to me from the service window it looked much better than I expected, and the extra strip of bacon protruding from the top was a nice surprise.  My fist bite was delicious!  Much better than I expected.  The bacon was perfectly cooked to a well-done level that would keep it crunchy and firm, but not burned or hard like those fake bacon bits you get at a cheap buffet. It was quite good.  However 4-5 bites later I found that I had eaten all the bacon off the top and was now just down to a regular vanilla soft serve ice cream with some caramel and chocolate on it.

The bacon is gone after the first few spoonfuls

Where’s the beef pork?  So the rest of the sundae was basically a sad reminder of how good those fist 4-5 bites were, much like eating to sweet top off of a muffin and just being left with the bran part.  So, I guess it’s an experience and trying it is fine, but it’s not going to make it on to my list of magic foods with the McRib any time soon.

..oh, McRib.  (mouth watering)
