My life as a Daddy Blogger: The Early Years
I know you are, but what am I? Recently I’ve been hearing from my friends on Facebook, and the few parenting blogs that I read, about various feuds between “Daddy Bloggers” and I’m really confused by it all. Reading the posts and counter posts made me think back to March 23rd, 2012 when I started my blog, and what made me do it.
It’s only been 3+ months since I...

Sushezi (sushi bazooka) Sushi Made Easy
I am simultaneously fascinated and horrified by this thing. I’m not sure why putting the same amount of ingredients on a traditional bamboo mat is so hard, but with 127 reviews on Amazon that are all pretty positive, I guess this is what people wanted?
Get yours today for only $22.87 plus S+H!
(or learn how to actually make sushi and buy a mat for $3)

Fishermen and Cowgirls Not Welcome
The sign at this gas station reads “Hoods and low profile headgear MUST BE REMOVED before entering store”. I’m not sure who put this sign together, but I guess at least the went with generally non-offensive images.. but not sure what they have against fishermen and cowgirls.

Watching Empire Strikes Back (Theatrical release) for the first time at 3 months
One of the things that horrifies my wife and I is the amount of screen time that we see kids having these days, and the complete melt down they have when you take it away. So it was easy for us to agree that our kids would not have regular access to screen devices until they were 2 years old, and at that point we...

Dream Ride
What I wouldn’t give to ride around in this baby. Or even just park it in our driveway with the rest of our “ridiculous car fleet” (as my wife says). Ah, a man can dream!

A love letter to food
Dear food,
I love you.
-Daddy (and son)
Shrimp po’boy at Star Provisions
I love all kinds of food. I love to cook it, I love to eat it, I love to watch other people cook it (not so much watch other people eat it) and I love to talk about it (but don’t call me a “foodie”). Everything from deep fried bacon on a stick to steamed broccoli with rice. I love “dare...

It's dune been fixed
Mr. Fixit: This weekend my wife told me it was my turn the clean the toilet. Looking at it for a considerable amount of time I deduced that it would be easier to just replace it. Now if she would just tell me it’s my turn to clean the cars.. it would be much easier to replace her Honda Civic (AKA “The Mule”) with a BMW X6.

3 million mile 1966 Volvo P1800
72-year-old Irvin Gordon, who is a retired schoolteacher from Long Island, hopes to reach the 3 million mile mark by next year in his 1966 Volvo P1800S. He only has 34,000 miles to go.
He bought his beloved car on June 30, 1966, for $4,150 at the age of 25. “It was a whole year’s salary,” he said.
I just wish ours would start every time so that I...

Toy Thursday Review: Playforever Vehicles
Playforever Enzo Motorbike (Red)
I recently came across these amazingly designed retro-inspired toys and was blown away. The lines are so nice and the construction and materials feel much to solid to be a modern toy.. but I guess that’s what you get for $60ish each?
Playforever Midi 1 Race Car (British Racing Green)
I’m not sure if the manufacturing price is that high, or...

What's the sign for "as soon as we pay for it"?
On a recent trip to our local grocery store I was completely amused by my son. We were not in a hurry and I only needed to get a few items so I let him walk around rather than riding in a cart. He was having a grand time, until we got to the produce section. He then started running around like a mad man and giving me the sign for “Eat”.
The fact that he picks up books over toys...

The opening credits from To Kill a Mockingbird are in my opinion one of the greatest of all times (Star Wars is right behind it) as well as an amazing opening narration to set the tone and place of the film.

To kill a Mockingbird 50th anniversary edition
Originally published in 1960 this amazing book is now available in it’s 50th anniversary edition, with a great forward by author Harper Lee herself:
“Introductions inhibit pleasure, they kill the joy of anticipation, they frustrate curiosity. The only good thing about Introductions is that in some cases they delay the dose to come. Mockingbird still says what it has to say; it has...

Review: Spot Loves His Daddy
My mom bought me this book for Father’s Day this year and it was a really nice surprise. Both because it’s great to see a book about fathers and sons, and because it almost feels like it’s written about me.
Spending the day with my son? I love that.
Playing soccer with my son? I love that.
Flying kites with my son? I love that.
Eating ice cream with my son? I love that.

..but not a drop to drink
“Never stop improving”: This weekend my son and I were doing a little home improvement shopping at our local Lowe’s store when I noticed that he was out of water. I carry a bottle of water in the car with me at all times, but that was dry too since we had been splitting it and temperatures were 100+ for the week, and 105 when we were out that day. So I thought,...

Moon Landing Hoax VS NASA
I never understood why people have such a hard time believing that we went men to the moon, but I think this cartoon hits the nail on the head..

Toy Thursday: Review: Fisher-Price Vintage Barn...
Farm living, is the life for me: When we remodeled our dining room into our son’s room in preparation for his arrival it didn’t take long for me to visualize all the toys that would fill his shelves. Meanwhile, I suspect my wife was having the same visions of shelves full of books. As a (toy) collector and designer, I took the job of choosing my son’s toys very...

Vacations: Kennedy Space Center 2012
One the road again: As a kid, being the son of a teacher, the summer meant two things: 1. a road trip, 2. that we would stop at EVERY “educational” spot that was even remotely on our way. Over the years of summer vacations, my mom and I piled into our old VW bug and drove to just about every corner of the US (and bits of Canada) and like it or not she made sure that I was going to learn...

Shit I say as a Dad
Of all the things that I could have imaged myself saying when I became a Dad, this one was not even remotely on my radar:

DIY Archeologist: Here is a GREAT idea from the folks over at crumbums.com.
Freeze a block of ice in a plastic bin with a bunch of small plastic dinosaurs (or whatever) in it and then let the kids go crazy trying to chip them out. Sounds like hours of summer fun (AKA Daddy can have a beer and enjoy the show) and no need to speak Hovitos.
Check out the entire post here.
Also, I think the art...

Thank you Mr. President
It’s that time of year again: Back in September of 2011 my son and I accompanied my wife on a business trip to NYC for the week. It was a great time to be in the city, the weather was cool and the tourist were lite. That is until the UN and the Clinton Initiative meetings both descended on the city. At that point the city got a little nutty with all the street closing, subway volume...

DIY Picture Book

Review: Sippy staw cups
Hitting the bottle: as we transition away from the bottle with our son we had a large collection of sippy cups that various people had given us and without knowing much about it I started using them, because it seemed like the logical next step. One of those sippy cups had a straw rather than they nipple-like spout and he really seemed to prefer drinking from that one. Also, when we were out...
