Kite star
This year my son is finally old enough to fly his own kite, which is really special for me since I’m such a kite nerd.  I got him a simple foil kite that turned out to be a complete piece of junk, luckily the local souvenir shop had a few cheapy kites and one of them was silver with a star which made my son yell out “Tumbderbolt kite”.  A reference to this P-47 Thunderbolt...

Low Counrty Broil
While on vacation we got some AMAZING local jumbo shrimp which inspired me to make a low country broil..  a first for my son, who loved it! It’s funny to me that I’ve tried to get him to eat shrimp several times in other dishes and he has always tuned his nose up at them.  But when I serve them straight up with no sauces to cover them he dives right in. Lesson learned, serve the...

Fried Mac & Cheese at Home Grown GA
Reason 48 our family LOVES Home GA! Being told about kitchen experiments by Chef/Owner Kevin Clark, then minutes later one of them magically appears at our table for testing. (Fried mac & cheese with bacon and a ranch dipping sauce. Sorry boys, it’s not on the menu)

Not sure which I’m more happy about: 1. I handed him a beer in the kitchen and said “Give this to Mike” and he walked out on the porch and did. 2. He can palm a can of PBR. Both are pretty great!

Vader's little princess by Jeffery Brown
I received about 4 copies of Mr. Brown’s first book (Darth Vader and Son) and this is pretty much the same thing.  It is NOT a children’s book, as many seem to believe, it is simply a collection of random images with somewhat humorous drawings of Darth Vader using quotes from the movies with a slightly different meaning.  The above image (from the back cover) is by far the best one...

ME-262
I put this in my cart Saturday because the ME-262 is an amazing aircraft (world’s 1st operational jet-powered fighter aircraft), but then I put it back because I felt uncomfortable about buying my kid a Nazi toy. Is that weird?

When are "Extreme" flavors to extreme?
I came across and end-cap display of Goldfish crackers at our local Target yesterday that stopped me in my tracks.  OK Goldfish, you have me on the the first two, but “Baby flavor”? That’s just weird, and the guy that approved this one has some s’planin’ to do.

My son's 2nd birthday cake, and my second chance...
First, I should say that I’m a decent cook, but a horrible baker.  So when I started thinking about making a birthday cake for my son’s 2nd birthday I was planning on keeping it simple after the struggles I had last year.  But, then when looking at Pintrest for ideas I came across some pretty cool cakes made in construction themes, which my son is crazy for right now. ...

We set this up outside our son’s door the night before his birthday so that in the morning he could open the door and have a balloon avalanche. It went over pretty well!

If you got it, flaunt it
We drove past this on I-75 North last week, and while I thought it was a cool car and a cool trailer, it seems like if have enough money to afford them that you would be above the need to show it off in everyone’s faces.. but I guess that is just me.

Atlanta, family style!
One of the things I love about having lived in Atlanta for so long is seeing all the “punk-ish” people I use to run with now having kids, and how they leverage that lifestyle into being a good parent. I ran into this van in the parking lot of our natural history museum and besides being a sweet ride, it had 3 car seats in it.  You go badass parent!

This is (not) the exit
As someone that pays attention to sings, I feel like this is a pretty universal sign for “No entry” (see above), so I was really confused by the decals on the doors at my local Toys R Us. The sign that says “Exit” is on the “No Entry” symbol.  To me that seems like a mixed message.  And just to make it worse, the entry doors had the same sticker on the...
